The UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development, together with the International Center for Promotion of Enterprises (ICPE) held a Professional Development Programme on Sustainable Energy Solutions from 12 to 19 November 2013. The programme took place at the premises of ICPE in Ljubljana, Slovenia, hosting young policy makers, middle level managers and experts from emerging and developing countries who are engaged in the design and implementation of energy policies, projects and programmes.
The professional programme gave 23 participants, selected from all over the world, the opportunity to familiarize themselves with current and expected trends in sustainable energy solutions and the chance to reflect on practical, innovative and cost effective ways to address sustainability problems within the energy industry and systems. The workshops were led by experts in the field, including representatives from academia, the private and public sectors, as well as UNIDO and its partner institutions.
The course clearly reflected UNIDO’s leadership role in providing innovative energy solution, enhancing competitiveness, and building new capacities for promoting green industry in developing countries.
Participants gained an in-depth understanding of energy policy, technology and financing as planning tools for the development of sustainable energy systems. Presentations were held on solutions for the provision of universal access to modern forms of energy, the promotion of clean energy technologies to enhance the competitiveness of industry as well as on the importance of enhancing energy security and addressing climate change.
Lectures were delivered by high-level speakers from UNIDO, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), the Fraunhofer Institute, the Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure and Spatial Planning as well as from the private sector.
