The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in collaboration with the Energy Academy Europe (EAE) organized a joint training programme on Sustainable Energy Solutions in Groningen, the Netherlands.
Some 25 policymakers and ministerial officers from developing countries including Brazil, Botswana, China, Egypt, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Mongolia, Nigeria, Tanzania and Ukraine, attended the eight-day training programme, which enhanced their understanding of innovative energy solutions.
The programme addressed key issues related to energy policy, technology and financing for the development of sustainable energy systems. It provided participants with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with current and expected trends in sustainable energy solutions, as well as to reflect on practical, innovative and cost effective ways to address the issue of sustainability in the energy industry.
The course offered a dynamic mix of lecture-based and interactive sessions. It included a field trip to the Dutch island of Ameland which is piloting a 100% self-sufficient energy system.
